Jörn Münzel

Dr. Uwe Hehn„At the start, things just happened this way “, says Jörn Münzel. After studying at the Technical University Darmstadt, he started out testing IT systems at Danet GmbH according to the requirements of the then postal authority. He soon realized that his mentality for analytical and structured thinking and testing matched perfectly. Twenty years on and considerably richer in professional experience, the software professional with a master degree in computer sciences today leads the Competence Center of the ITinera Consulting GmbH & Co. KG.

Jörn Münzel is therefore a testing professional with years of experience, who knows the various facets of quality assurance inside out. He worked for instance as project lead for test automation at Danet GmbH, but also in research (Robert Bosch GmbH), and as Head of General Software Technology (Bosch Telecom GmbH). Since his initial contact with software testing back in the early nineties, Jörn Münzel has been fascinated by the balancing act the job requires: putting oneself in the position of the users and their expectations on one hand, and the technical implementation on the other hand. The independent role of the testers compared to software developers and computer scientists is particularly close to Münzel’s heart. He promotes a clear division of these tasks, and he sees the GTB as the ideal platform to sharpen the job profile of testers and to further develop the associated qualifications.

This is the reason why Jörn Münzel has become involved in the GTB’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG). He ensures that the experiences and needs of training providers flow into the training scheme for the ISTQB® Certified Tester. When it comes to the elaboration of the syllabi, a large bandwidth of different aspects connected with testing is of particular importance to him, just as in his own career. This is to include everything from databank-based solutions for end users to highly technical software topics. To ensure that the syllabi are continually kept up to date, Jörn Münzel supports the GTB in the automated change management of the course documentation.

Apart from his activities for the GTB, Jörn Münzel has been involved in the specialist group „Testing, Analysis and Verification (TAV)“ of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) for 15 years.
