It was a Year 2K project which introduced Dr. Matthias Hamburg, a software engineer of long-standing experience, to the new world of systematic software testing. As he checked through entire IT landscapes, the IT expert, who today is Managing Consultant at Sogeti Deutschland GmbH, realized quickly that software quality assurance was not something that is here today gone tomorrow, but rather something promising significant potential for the future.

This has, in fact, come true, also for Dr. Hamburg personally. With his degrees in mathematics and computing science, he has since 1997 specialised more and more on software testing. Correspondingly, his role at Sogeti Deutschland has since 2006 been marked by test management and test method consulting activities. In these fields, the focus is on TMap®, Sogeti’s own test method, as well as on the TPI Test Process Improvement model.

Dr. Hamburg has been a member of the GTB since the beginning of 2008, thereby expanding his voluntary commitments, which so far he has shown principally in the specialist group „Testing, Analysis and Verification“ of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI). As far as the GTB is concerned, he wants to contribute his experience and know-how in the creation and spreading of the syllabi: for the training and qualification of ISTQB® Certified Testers. Because training and passing on of knowledge are also his personal interests.

The long-term goal of the test specialist is to establish software quality assurance as an engineering discipline. To this end, he sees the GTB as an ideal platform. In addition, he also sees it as an organisation to standardise and and make the profession of the software tester known in public. In this training of students, he also makes out significant potential for a professional software quality assurance, which industry so desparately needs.
